Erin and Adam's Story: A Family Home

Newlyweds Erin and Adam Jacobs and their four children were just getting comfortable in their rental home when they learned their landlord was selling the house.

“We were renting in Carlsbad for four months when the owners decided to sell,” said Erin, the Associate Director of Student Success Analytics at California State University, Long Beach.” We had already put a lot into that space and didn’t want to be in that position again.”

They wanted to buy a home, but found that their offers of a 5% down payment were being rejected in today’s seller’s market.

“Getting to 20% was the big challenge for us,” said Adam. “Our 5% offers in the past made it hard to be competitive, and we didn’t really love those houses. Partnering with Landed allowed us to get into the kind of house we wanted.”

Given that they have four kids ages 10 to almost 15, they were looking for plenty of bedrooms and a play space. They also wanted an easy commute to work, a large kitchen, and a nice neighborhood. They also didn’t want a fixer-upper, but still the chance to make the home their own.

Turns out, their new home checked all the boxes. The 3,000-square-foot home has four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and sits in a neighborhood with walking trails, a private park, and 17 acres of open space. Plus, a larger park with sports fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas is a short walk away.

“We loved it as soon as we saw it,” Erin said. “It was fantastic, had open space, and a great yard. We knew we could make it our own.”

The couple has now been in their new home a few months, and has reflected on their Landed experience. Long story short, they are grateful they reached out.
