Grace and Isaac's Story: Becoming Homeowners

Cheyenne Morgan-Bortone | 19 Aug 2022

Grace Montenegro and Isaac Oxom-Montenegro simply got tired of throwing money away each month.

“We were at the point where we started to have those adult jobs and adult incomes,” Grace said, laughing.  “We realized we could probably scrape together enough to put that money into something we get to keep.”

Grace, a math teacher at Denver Public Schools, first heard about Landed’s down payment program for essential professionals at work.

“I’ve always been impressed with the school district’s efforts to support their teachers,” Grace said. “And when I read about Landed I thought it could really help us become homeowners.”

While the couple braced for having offers rejected in the competitive housing market in Aurora, Colorado, they didn’t need to worry.

“We were pretty dubious going in,” Grace said. “The market being crazy in Denver meant that most places were selling to people with entirely cash offers and selling over the asking price. We thought, let's start looking at houses and practice getting rejected.”

“And then we looked at this house, loved it, and got accepted on the first offer.”

The two-bedroom, two-bath condo with big windows just felt right.

“We loved it right away. It was very bright and warm,” Grace said. “The front door felt like the door my friends will be coming in. ”

The couple loved their home from the first moment they walked through the front door.

Before partnering with Landed, the couple checked out other programs. None matched their needs.

“None of them were quite in the same vein as what Landed does,” Grace said. “We went with Landed because we could get a higher down payment and the repayment is way more flexible.”

The couple worked with two Landed Partner Agents, which was another benefit.

“We loved our agents,” Grace said. “We worked with a husband-and-wife team and both were our top picks independently. The fact that they worked as a team was a bonus. They made it simple for us.”

The couple also liked Landed’s mission to help essential professionals buy homes.

“I think for me, there's a certain coolness to the fact that it is specifically programmed for essential professionals,” Grace said. “I think it's needed and it's really wonderful.”
