Jahira Teague says there’s just something about a flight of stairs (or two) that makes her feel at home.
“I don't know what it is about going upstairs and downstairs,” said the fourth-grade teacher at Seattle Public School’s Sacajawea Elementary. “It has a different feeling than being in an apartment. And I love it.”
Jahira, and her partner, Nick Gates, had started looking to buy a home back in 2020. Jahira learned about Landed, and our down payment program, from a co-worker.
“The logic of it made sense but the offer sounded too good to be true,” Jahira recalled thinking when she heard about how we partner with essential professionals on mortgage down payments.
So she did her homework: requesting info from Landed, researching the program, and having her mother, an attorney, review the fine print.

“We knew very little about buying a home, so we had to learn a lot,” Jahira said. “It helped that my mother approved of Landed.”
The couple previously had shopped for a condo, thinking it would be all their budget would allow. They even went so far as to nearly buy one.
“We actually put in an offer for a condo that we really liked, but when Landed researched the purchase, we learned that the homeowner's association for that property was in serious financial trouble and likely to become a headache, so they decided to pass on that opportunity,” Jahira said. “It was very comforting to know that Landed had our back.”
When their real estate agent, who is also a Landed partner agent, suggested they look at the two-bedroom townhouse they ultimately bought, they were immediately interested.

The couple loves the home inside and out, as well as the location near many things they care about.
Bright inside with many updates, a fenced yard and deck, and close proximity to restaurants, stores, and public transportation, the couple felt at home.
Their favorite parts?
“The layout of the second floor is really nice. It’s an open floor plan that has designated spaces. And there’s plenty of alcoves for books and seasonal decorations,” Jahira said. “Plus, there’s a space underneath the stairs, just like in Harry Potter.”
“I really like having a garage,” Nick said. “And the garage has extra storage up above.”
The couple both agreed they are glad they partnered with Landed.
“For me, it was the team of people,” Jahira said. “I felt more comfortable knowing that Landed was looking through the documents. We never felt alone with Landed by our side.”
