San Francisco native Maritza Sanchez went from never considering homeownership possible to buying her first home in just a few short months.
“I never thought of buying a home,” said Maritza, a registered nurse at the University of California, San Francisco, Benioff Children's Hospitals. “But Landed made it feasible to buy in the Bay Area.”

Maritza was already facing a move from her apartment, and her roommate had been urging her to buy a home and earn equity rather than continue to throw away money on rent. With Landed, she found a partner that could help her reach a 20% down payment and walk her through each step of the buying process.
“I had fears of buying a home because it would deplete my money,” she said. “But Landed was really supportive and articulated all the ins-and-outs of homebuying.”
While the timing was perfect for her to buy, the housing market in San Francisco didn’t make it easy. Fortunately, Maritza was persistent. She placed 15 unsuccessful bids before having her 16th accepted by sellers.
“The Bay area is super competitive and there were a lot of challenges,” she said. “But Landed did the legwork and it was like having a buying coach through the whole process.”
Now she’s enjoying her new two-bedroom, two-bath Art Deco-style home that was fully upgraded by the previous owners to include a chef’s kitchen, hardwood floors, and beautiful bathrooms. As an avid gardener, Maritza also loves the home’s large and level backyard. She’s dreaming of adding an avocado tree alongside other favorites, like roses.

She’s also letting her colleagues who are essential professionals know about Landed. She never knew such a program existed before, and doesn’t want others to miss out.
“I’ve sent emails out to colleagues just so they know Landed exists and can help,” she said. “There’s so many appealing things about the program – the support, the down payment program – it was so helpful.”
